First Attempt of Street Photography
looking down
The aim of todays lesson was to take photos of something below us. I took this photo for at the top of the stairs down on to the walk way as someone was walking over it. I think that this photo was successful because it is a photo of something that happens in everyday life, in the photo one thing that I noticed was that there are lots of straight lines in this image and there are not very many colours. The colours that i can see are grey, white, green and tanned colour of the bricks. Next time one way i might improve is by maybe changing the angle that i take the photo at to make it look different to other peoples pictures.

over the shoulder
The aim of todays lesson was to take over the shoulder street photography. I have taken 10 photos in total, I think that most of these photos were successful as I have taken all photos over peoples shoulders. One thing that I like about these photos is that you have a wide range of things that draw your eyes to such as the person the photo is taken of or the background which will always be different in ever photo.

Shadows and reflectionsWalk on byCroppingSurfacesJill Freedman |
Todays lesson was based on shadows and reflection. We used the reflection of lots of different things like water fountains and windows to take our photos. I used natural sunlight to take images with a shadow in them of both people and objects I found while taking the photographs. Next time I would like to use more techniques in order to take the reflection images as i think they came out similarly.
For these photographs I took images of people walking. I tried to take photos of people at different locations and take them at different angles. One thing that I think went well was that most to all of the people are mid step, in my opinion this make the photo more interesting as it gives more of an impression that they are trying to go somewhere rather than just standing still. One thing that I would like to improve is the colours in the photos, I think that if the colours of the clothes that people wear were bright it would contrast well against the plain background.
While taking these photographs I thought about how the objects in the photo were framed so that I could zoom in to the photo and crop it in photoshop if I needed to. One thing that I think went well was that the objects in the photograph are all obvious and you can tell what they are. However one thing that I would like to improve is how cropped some of the photographs are as I feel as if a lot of them are not very cropped.
For these images I took photographs of surfaces with different and unusual textures. One thing that i think went well for these photographs is how varied the surfaces are and how the shadow and light shows texture in the image. One thing that I think I could have done better is to zoom in the photos more in order to see the surfaces much closer.

Jill Freedman lives and takes many photos in new york. She has award winning photographs are in the museum of modern art, The international centre of photography, the smithsonian institution and the bibliothhque nationale. She is a very out going person and is willing to take big risks in order to get good photographs. The photos of which she takes are street photography, These are usually odd look photos that are unlikely to be repeated.
Image evaluation |
I have chosen this photo by jill freedman because I think that there is a lot going on in it. The first thing that I noticed about this photo is that there was two children playing while another watched from the corner, One question i would ask about this image is, what made you want to take this photo? and what about the arrangement did you like. The second thing the I noticed was the repeated patterns in the walls and the ground, All of the shapes where rectangles that had been organised in a organised way. The image has been taken I black and white, I think that that has worked really well because the photo is so detailed that if it were to be in colour you might look past all the small expressions and shadows that makes the image look good.

How do street photographers behave?
I think that street photographers are fearless when behind a camera and all have different views of photography.
What kind of equipment do they use?
A lot of street photographers use rangefinder cameras as they are good for finding points to focus on.
What kinds of subjects interest them?
Life on the streets interests them because they can capture things that might be hard to recreate.

Tate modern Trip
One reason that i think that this photo is successful is because it has captured the moment that the man was blowing smoke out of his mouth. However in order to improve the image if i were to retake it i would try and focus the image better as i think that this could allow you to see the emotion of the man in more detail.
Another reason that i like this photograph is because it is very in the moment and a few of the other images that i had taken on the trip were more thought out and planned.
